Field Day Logger 2.0
====================
Introduction
============
FIELDDAY.EXE is a simple logging and dupe checking program
for the ARRL's annual Field Day competition. While it does
not take into account multipliers, it records the band, the
mode, the time, day and date, and the other station's
classification, and the score for each contact. Dupe sheets
and Log sheets can be printed at any time. Dupe and Log
sheets include the number of contacts made, and the total
number of points for that band and mode. The whole database
may be browsed through at any time in order to find and/or
correct any QSO.
Full mouse support is built in. Users of this program who do
not use a mouse, can use the <TAB> key to move between
fields. SHIFT-<TAB> moves throught the fields in reverse
order.
Using FIELDDAY
==============
Upon starting FIELDDAY, the user will be asked to enter the
call being used for the Field Day competition, and the
number of hours needed to adjust your computer's clock to
UTC. Simply enter the call, press return, then enter a
number between -12 and +12 for the offset, followed by
return once more:

The cursor waits on the «Continue» push button, so, if you
made a mistake, you can edit either field by either pressing
the <Tab> key repetedly until you getto the field you
require, or by using the mouse.
After entering the Field Day call, the user is presented with
the main QSO entry screen:

Changing Bands and Modes
------------------------
Before entering QSOs into the database, the user should
select the band and the mode that will be used. Both of these
items can be changed at any time, but the user should
remember that Field Day rules specify that a transmitter must
remain on any one band/mode for at least FIFTEEN minutes (ie.
you cannot switch bands and/or modes, make a quick contact,
then immediately change back again and resume where you left
off!).
To change the band, use the mouse to position the cursor
over the ┌──────╖ box (or use the <TAB> key on the
│ 10m ║ keyboard. Press the left mouse button,
╘══════╝ and keep it pressed (or press return).
Move the cursor down to the required band and release the
mouse button (or press return again) to select that band.
To change the mode, use the mouse to position the cursor
over the ┌────────╖ box (or press the <TAB> button
│ Phone ║ repeatedly). Press the left mouse
╘════════╝ button and keep it pressed (or press
return). Move the cursor down to the required mode and
release the mouse button (or press return again) to select
the mode.
You are now ready to start entering contacts!
Entering a Contact
------------------
When entering a call into the database, simply type the other
station's call in area next to the "Callsign" label. Press
return to move to the "Class" field. At this point, the
program checks to see if the call you just entered has
already been logged for that particular band and mode. If it
has, a small window pops up at the top right of the screen to
inform the user that the call just entered was a duplicate.
All fields are then cleared, and a beep is sounded.
If, however, the call is a valid call (not a duplicate), then
the cursor moves to the « Add » push button. Clicking the
left mouse button, or pressing the <RETURN> key adds the QSO
to the database. The UTC date and UTC time are automatically
recorded with each contact made.
Cancelling a Contact
--------------------
At any point, prior to selecting the « Add » button, the
contact can be cleared by selecting the <Cancel> button.
Finding a Previous Contact (BROWSE)
-----------------------------------
It is possible to look back over all the previously entered
contacts by selecting the <Browse> push button. When this
button is pushed, a browse window pops up. This window shows
the callsign, band, mode and classification of all
previously entered contacts, in the order that they were
entered (first to last).

To close the browse window, either click on the "■" symbol
at the top left corner of the window, or press the <ESC> key.
Changing (Deleting) a Previous Contact
--------------------------------------
Contacts cannot be changed directly, they must first be
deleted, then rentered.
Use the <Browse> button to display the list of previously
entered contacts. Use the mouse or the cursor keys to move
around the browse window until the contact that you want to
change is highlighted. Then, either click the left mouse
button in the space to the immediate left of the call sign,
or press CTR-T to mark the contact as deleted. The display
should change to show the following:
║ KJ6EF │10m │RTTY │TEST R 2 ║
After deleting the contact, close the browse window, and
re-enter the contact with the correct information.
[Note: Deleted QSOs still appear in the Browse Window (and
can be "un-deleted" by repeating the above procedure) but
will not appear in any reports.]
Printing a Dupe Sheet
---------------------
Dupe sheets may be printed at any time. Selecting the <Dupe
Sheet> button causes the following window to appear:
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ │
│ │
│ Select the band and the mode for the dupesheet: │

└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Change the band and the mode to show the correct values for
the dupe sheet that you wish to print. When the printer is
ready, select the «Print» puch button. The dupe sheet will
be printed. Selecting the <Cancel> button cancels the
printing of the dupe sheet.
Printing a Log Sheet
--------------------
Follow the instructions above for printing a Dupe Sheet, but
select the <Log Sheet> push button instead of the <Dupe
Sheet> button.
Quitting FIELDDAY
-----------------
To exit the Field Day logging program, select the <Quit>
push button.
Extra Goodies!!
===============
Mouse users can double click the RIGHT mouse button on a
"blank" area of the screen to reveal a menu containing the
following options (keyboard users can acess this menu by
pressing F10):
SYSTEM FILE EDIT and WINDOW
(To clear this menu, if it was invoked with a double mouse
click, click on the main entry screen. If it was invoked
using the F10 key, press escape to clear the menu.)
Under the System menu popup, you will find a calculator,
Calendar/Diary, Special Character chart, an ASCII chart, a
screen/field capture utility, and a puzzle (if you get bored
of logging!!).
The File menu, in this release, does nothing.
Use the Edit menu to cut and paste items from fields, and to
locate individual records quickly.
The Window option can be used to hide the screen, just in
case the man from the FCC comes round and sees that you're
operating outside of your license privileges!!! :-[
